The Spanish Unions CCOO, UGT, SITCPLA and Sindicato Candidatura TCP have published a document revealing that IBERIA Spanish Airlines, refuses to adjust the basic salary of its new entrance cabin crew members to reach the minimum salary established by law.
The scandal has raised after the airline's recent purchase of its rival Air Europa, for the price of 1b euros. According to sources, a new entrance cabin crew member's basic salary, does not reach the minimum established by law by almost 600 euros per month, leaving their working conditions way out of legality. Even after the unions requested measures to regulate and solve this issue, the airline explained that they have no intentions to make any changes unless they receive personal and individual from each employee. Could this be a way to point fingers in an attempt to terminate or refuse to renew the contracts of those who bring up a personal request to the airline?
As we speak, the airline is in current negotiations with the Unions in place, but as these organisations have said, the trust that a new deal could be agreed in a good will way is disappearing day by day.
